A Guide For Young Millennials Trying To Find The Right Job

Working for a marketing agency is a thing in and of itself. It’s a very fun environment to say the least, but people are still hard-working and committed. As my Wilde time is almost up, I thought I’d humbly pass on some quite Captain-Obvious-like but still relevant advice:

Try things out! There are so many companies and positions out there, so how can you know what you like without having given it a try? Do your research, find a company that matches your interests, get an interview and see if you fit with the people. Seems easy enough on paper, I know. But who gets excited to work for a cause they don’t care about? Ah.

Getting along with the people that surround you is another big thing. It’s totally linked to how happy you will be doing your job. So hopefully you can get a good feel of the people during the interview. I’ve been lucky enough to always have fitted in my environment so far… I think it may be related to the fact that I always somehow find someone to appreciate my poor sarcastic jokes and answer back at me.

By the way, you shouldn’t just fit with the people; you have to be a good communicator. Everyone has a different communication and management style, and you should be able to adapt yours to your manager’s, team’s, and colleagues’. Bad communication can lead to misunderstanding, which can lead to feeling miserable. And you don’t want that. Flexibility and adaptation. Keys. Oh, and patience, too. And clarity. Please.

But, if you do get to the point of complete misery – and preferably before you do, speak up! – that’s the only way to work things through. Don’t be afraid to voice whatever you think is off. If it resolves the problem, then you’ll stop being unsatisfied and your experience won’t be ruined. Oui ! If it doesn’t, you’ll still be miserable but will know you’ve tried and hopefully will look for other solutions? Optimism, people.
