Please come to Boston

If you’re a smart marketer looking to get smarter, Boston is the place to be this fall.

Seriously. There are at least four major conferences heading here to Beantown: INBOUND, the DMA’s &Then, FutureM, and MarketingProfs’ B2B Forum.

They all look great. And if the past is any predictor of the future, they will be.

Since INBOUND is up first, September 8-11 at the Boston Convention and Exhibit Center, let’s focus on that.

The speaker lineup is chockfull of people you’d love to meet in this industry. People like Dan Pink, Malcolm Gladwell, Scott Stratten, Ann Handley, and Tim Ash. I’ve heard each of them speak and they rock. But I’m probably not telling you anything new here.

So let me say I’m equally excited about three other names on the roster. These are people I know for a fact will be excellent. And I know that because I know them personally – because I’ve worked with them in Boston.

So you can think of this as some inside scoop.

It’s not that these three don’t speak all over the place too. It’s just that I can say I knew them when!

Mike Schneider, Skyhook Wireless

The first is Mike Schneider, Marketing VP at Skyhook Wireless and co-author (with another INBOUND speaker Aaron Strout) of “Location Based Marketing for Dummies.”

Ever since I met him, @schneidermike has been my go-to guy for new and emerging technologies. The guy eats them for breakfast. Plus, he’s a self-confessed data and analysis junkie. Just think about the combination for a second. I can’t wait to hear what he’s got to say at INBOUND.

Robert Solomon, Solomon Strategic

My next can’t miss speaker recommendation is Robert Solomon. Since Solomon Strategic is in CA, he’s clearly no longer a Bostonian. But we worked together here, so I still think of him as local.

@RJSolomon is the author of “Brain Surgery for Suits: 56 Things Every Account Person Should Know.” This book is jammed with practical, actionable agency advice that even I, as a – gasp! – creative, use. Whatever he chooses to share at INBOUND will be invaluable.

Joe Grimaldi, Mullen

And finally there’s Joe Grimaldi, Chairman of Mullen. @wizbolt is hands down one of the sharpest guys I know in the advertising business.

On two separate occasions, I had a ringside seat watching Joe shape and grow Mullen. The first was early on, when Adweek still called the agency a boutique shop. The second was when they wouldn’t dare. The stories, advice and perspective he can share will be terrific.

So there you have it. A little preview of one of the blockbuster conferences headed to The Hub. As the Chief Creative Officer of Wilde Agency here, I can tell you there’s never really a bad time to be in this part of the country.

However this fall is looking like an especially good time to “pahk ya cah in Hahvahd Yahd.”
